A Certain Dark Item

Academy City presents ESP as an accepted branch of science, but its calm surface conceals a covert world. ITEM is an elite unit of four girls tasked with work that cannot be brought into the open. Takitsubo Rikou can trace the AIM fields produced by ability users. Frenda Seivelun turns explosives and traps into weapons, while Kinuhata Saiai controls nitrogen and protects the team. Among them is Mugino Shizuri, one of the city’s 7 celebrated Espers. Together, they move through the darkness, keeping their sights on a target as the bonds between them take shape—and as their path points toward a terrible incident.

Action and science fiction frame a story where extraordinary abilities meet covert work and personal connection. Its appeal comes from the contrast between Academy City’s orderly scientific image and the secrecy beneath it: missions stay out of public view, while encounter and friendship develop in a place shaped by darkness. The four members also give ITEM a distinct balance of tracking, traps, defense, and power, letting each girl contribute a different kind of edge.

As a 2026 TV series, A Certain Dark Item brings its action and sci-fi premise into a focused series format. Start at the beginning to meet ITEM and enter Academy City’s hidden side.
