Devilman
Akira Fudo, a shy and timid teenager, joins his father on a mountain-climbing expedition in the Himalayas. A disastrous accident kills them both, but Akira’s body is later taken over by Devilman, a demon soldier. Wearing a human form as a cover, he is meant to unleash chaos on Earth and prepare the way for demons to invade. His mission changes when he encounters Miki Makimura, his childhood friend, and falls in love with her. Now the future of Miki and humanity is tied to the choice he makes.
Rather than serve the forces that awakened him, Devilman turns against his fellow demons. Demon Tribe leader Zennon is enraged by this betrayal and sends Devilman’s former comrades after him. The danger grows when those demons discover how important Miki is to their enemy, forcing Devilman to defend her while facing threats to his own survival. The central question is whether love can stand against true evil.
Blending fantasy, horror, action, and romance, the series places a tender emotional bond inside a struggle against demonic destruction. Its appeal comes from that sharp contrast: Akira’s timid human identity, Devilman’s violent mission, and the growing need to protect both one person and humanity. The result is a story about betrayal, courage, love, and the pull between compassion and evil.
This finished 1972 TV series runs for 39 episodes. Start with the first episode to follow Akira’s transformation and Devilman’s decision to fight on humanity’s side.
