Initial D 3rd Stage
After finishing high school, Takumi faces two major challenges beyond the road. Ryosuke Takahashi, leader of the RedSuns, invites him to join a new professional racing team, forcing Takumi to consider what direction he wants next. Before answering, however, he calls for another contest with Kyouichi Sudou, the leader of Emperor. Kyouichi had beaten him before, but an engine failure shaped that result, leaving Takumi determined to settle the matter. A second rival soon enters the picture: Kai Kogashiwa, a younger-generation street racer whose father once had a fierce rivalry with Takumi’s father, Bunta. Personal pride, family history, and a possible professional future all converge around Takumi’s racing.
With its action and sports focus, the film turns racing into a test of resolve, identity, and unfinished business. Takumi is pulled between answering Ryosuke’s ambitious offer and pursuing payback on his own terms. The tension also reaches across generations through Kai and the connection between their fathers, giving the competition a personal edge. Its movie format keeps the premise concentrated around rivalries, choices, and the pressure of proving yourself on the road.
Released in 2001, Initial D 3rd Stage is a finished movie presented as one episode. It offers a focused feature-length entry built around Takumi’s next decision and his demanding rematch.
