One Outs

One Outs

ワンナウツ

On the streets of Okinawa, Toua Tokuchi treats baseball as a wager rather than a simple contest. The professional athlete has amassed 499 victories in One Outs, a stripped-down duel between a pitcher and one batter, despite a fastball that tops out at only 134 kmph. His real advantage is the calculation behind each throw—and the nerve of someone who enjoys gambling.

Veteran slugger Kojima Hiromichi sees enough in Toua to recruit him for the struggling Saikyou Saitama Lycaons, hoping this unusual pitcher can help chase a championship. Team owner Tsuneo Saikawa, however, views Toua’s ability as a danger to the money the club brings in. Toua answers that resistance with an extraordinary contract: five million yen for each out he records, but a fifty-million-yen loss whenever he allows a run.

That arrangement turns every pitch into a psychological contest, where deception, pressure, and financial risk matter as much as pitching skill. One Outs blends sports action with mind games, following Toua’s battles against the people around him rather than treating baseball as a straightforward test of athletic power. It is adapted from a manga by Shinobu Kaitani, the creator associated with Liar Game, giving the series a distinct connection to strategic, high-pressure storytelling.

This finished 2008 TV series runs for 25 episodes. Begin with episode 1 to see how Toua’s gamble enters professional baseball and whether his unusual approach can carry the Lycaons toward victory. The adaptation keeps its focus on the collision between a pitcher, a team, and an owner with very different stakes.
