RahXephon
Tokyo is cut off from the world by a strange distortion, and life inside it runs at a different pace. Ayato Kamina is caught between that enclosed city and an outside world facing the Mu, blue-blooded beings from another dimension. When an attack brings a Dolem—a towering humanoid weapon—into the conflict, Ayato encounters his classmate Reika Mishima amid the chaos. Soon government officials pursue him, while Haruka arrives with a way out and a connection to TERRA, the organization that sent her to find him.
Ayato escapes with Haruka, but a train journey brings Reika back into his path. Following her to the Room of Rah, he discovers a vast egg from which the Dolem RahXephon emerges. Reika’s song, the appearance of Ayato’s mother atop the giant machine, and the clash with TERRA’s forces draw him into a crisis that reaches beyond the city. When his mother is hurt, Ayato leaves Tokyo Jupiter with Haruka. The setup links personal relationships to a conflict involving mysterious beings, powerful machines and a city separated from the outside.
As a thriller and mecha series, RahXephon combines an uneasy atmosphere with large-scale clashes between humanoid weapons. Its central mystery is grounded in Ayato’s own ties to Reika, Haruka and his mother, while the sealed city gives the story a distinctive sense of isolation. This is a finished TV series from 2002, with 26 episodes. Begin with episode 1.
