Shigofumi

シゴフミ

In Shigofumi, Mikawa Fumika carries letters from the dead to people still living. These messages hold words their writers never managed to express in life, from love and hope to anger and regret. Fumika makes her deliveries with her partner, Kanaka, and other members of the mail service. The work brings the last thoughts of the deceased into the lives of those who receive them, while Fumika’s own presence prompts a question: mail carriers like her are dead humans who keep the appearance they had before dying, yet Fumika is still growing older.

Fantasy and drama meet in a premise built around what people leave unsaid. Each letter gives the story a way to consider how final words can affect the living, whether they carry deep feelings or seem to hold little weight. The contrast between Fumika’s reserved exterior and the unusual truth about her makes the delivery service more than a simple route from sender to recipient.
