At a high school, Ryuuji Takasu is a kind student who enjoys housework, though his intimidating expression makes others mistake him for a delinquent. Taiga Aisaka has the opposite problem: she is small and doll-like in appearance but fiercely spirited, carries a wooden katana, and is known around school as the “Palmtop Tiger.” After an embarrassing mishap brings them together, their very different personalities become the foundation for an unexpected partnership.
Ryuuji discovers that Taiga has a softer side and is interested in Yuusaku Kitamura, the popular vice president and Ryuuji’s best friend. He, meanwhile, has feelings for Minori Kushieda, who happens to be Taiga’s closest friend. Once these secrets come to light, the pair decide to support each other in pursuing their respective crushes. Their plan creates an unusual alliance, with romantic hopes and plenty of comic complications at its center.
