ヴァンドレッド

On Taraak, men and women on Mejere have grown so divided that each side no longer regards the other as the same species. Hibiki Tokai, a third-class male laborer, becomes trapped aboard a battleship after an attempted robot theft goes wrong. His situation worsens when female pirates seize the Taraakian Vanguard, leaving him caught between two hostile societies.

When the Vanguard’s male crew fires on the captured ship in desperation, their attack opens a colossal wormhole. The Vanguard and the pirates’ vessels are pulled through it and stranded far from their home planets. Hibiki and the other men and women now face a shared problem: they must find a way to cooperate if they hope to return.

Vandread combines science-fiction world-building, mecha conflict, and action with a sharp premise about enforced separation. Its gender war turns everyday contact into a source of mistrust, while the unexpected crisis makes cooperation essential. The appeal comes from watching enemies forced into the same uncertain situation, with the route home depending on whether they can work past the divide that shaped their worlds.

Released as a finished TV series in 2000, Vandread runs for 13 episodes. Start with the opening episode to meet Hibiki and enter its split-world setup; the story’s compact series format keeps its central journey clearly focused.
